June Wine of the Month:
Our June
feature comes to us from the Puglia region in Southern Italy. Puglia
is the southeastern-most region in Italy which forms the “heel”
of the Italian boot also known as the Salento penninsula. Our wine,
Masseria Li Veli's Passamante Salice Salentino DOC, is made from the
Negromaro grape in the Salaci Salentino DOC appellation. The grapes
were hand picked the last two weeks of September and then aged in
French Oak barriques for 6 months before bottling. The wine is a
dense ruby red with aromas of ripe and fleshy red fruits followed by
spicy notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. In the mouth it is full,
powerful, smooth and very long with well-balanced acidity. $34 a
bottle and $8.50 a glass.
