July Wine of the Month:
Our July
feature comes to us from the the island of Sardinia belonging to
Italy. Sardinia is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean
and lies roughly 190 miles west of Italy's mainland. Costera is made
from the Cannonau grape more commonly known as Grenache. It has been
hypothozied that the wine made from the Cannonau is one of the
reasons the island has nearly 10 times more centenarians per capita
than the United States!
The
wine shows flavors of very ripe strawberries, black cherries, herbs
and spices. The warmth and sunshine of Sardinia is present in the wine with a deep color and fullness on the palate. French oak
barriques provide rounded tannins and flavors of vanilla. $9.00
a glass or $34 a bottle.
